1992
It was 1992 when Lou Pearlman decided to start a boysband and advertised in a newspaper that he was looking for "Teen male vocalists: Producer seeks male teen singers that move well between 16-19 years of age. Wanted for New Kids-type singing/dance group. Send photo or bio' and any kind to ..."
The first ones that made it through the auditions where AJ McLean and Tony Donetti (who we all know as Howie Dorough) in august of that year, although Howie didn't knew it till after a few months. In october of that year 12-year old Nick Carter auditions for the group and Howie D turnes up for the audition cuz he believes that it was for another group. What he didn't knew was that he already got the job, when they where introduced to each other they saw they already knew each other from other auditions. These 3 where the beginning of a new boyband.
2 others would follow, Sam Licata and Charles Edwards, but wouldn't stay long.
1993
In march of that year Sam leaves the group for personal reasons and a bit later also Charles leaves the group because of difficulties with his voice.
In 1993 Kevin Richardson made it to the group and he introduced his cousin Brian Littrell to them. They both replaced the other 2 that where initially hired for the band but didn't stay.
From that day april 20, the day Brian arrived to Florida, the group officialy exist, that's the day the (backstreet's) world celebrates there birthday!
May 18 1993: the boys perform there first big concert at Sea World, Orlando for more than 3000 teenagers, who went wild during the concert!
The whole summer of 1993 the boys kept on performing in shopping malls. In the fall of 1993 they started touring in schools across the states.
1994
The boys sign there first record deal with Jive/Zomba records!
1995
In august they tried to bring out their first single "we've got it going on" in the USA, but it didn't climbed high into the billboards.
In october they brought the single out in Europe where they hit the charts with it, in germany they got there first golden single that year!
1996
"get down" comes
out in Europe and hit the charts!
The boys return to the states to record there first album.
In the summer of that year they started touring the Far East and Canada. In august they release "we've got it going on" and makes it to number 3 of the charts.
Their first album is an immediate hit in over a dozen countries, earning their first platinum album (500.000 cd's sold) in germany. The album peaks at number 12 in the UK.
In octover the boys do a world tour of South East Asia and Australia. And in november they perform a tour of 14 cities in mid-sized arenas and theaters in the UK and Europe. The British leg of the tour is a success and the re-released "i'll never break your heart" single climbs to number 8 in the UK.
Despite heave competition, the boys win a phone-in poll for the best group category at the MTV Europe Awards.
1997
In the beginning of 1997 the boys take time out to record and be with their families. They prepare for a 37-city tour of Europe. In February they start their Euro-tour. In April they turn their attention to America. After selling more than 8.5 million CD's the boys begin work on a new album for release in the US. The album would combine the best material from their debut CD along with some of their newer songs. In june of that year "Quit playing games (with my heart)" is released in the US and quickly clims to number 2 on the charts.
2 months later in august they release their first US album Backstreet Boys. The album would go on to sell nearly nine million copies in the USA and become number 3 album of the year. Then everybody (Backstreet's Back) is released to the rest of the world and quickly begins a steady climb up the charts everywhere.
In december the boys embark on their 60-city, 20 country tour that will last nearly a year.
1998
In May Brian undergoes surgery to correct a congenital heart disorder. Within weeks, he is back on tour with the Boys. But in september of that year again tragedy strikes, this time within the Dorough family. Howie's sister Caroline Cochran loses her battle with a disease called Lups. She was only 37.
1999
That year the boys get their first Grammy nod with a nomination for Best New Artist of 1998.
The boys release "Millenim", there 3 (in the USA 2) full CD.
In june the Boys travel to Belgium to begin a mega-tour. One month after its release, Millenium still has a solid hold on the #1 spot on the Billboards album charts. On august 14 1999 the Boys sell out their 39-city fall tour in less than a day.
In december AJ introduces his alter ego Johnny No-Name and prepares for a January concert in support of VH1's Save the Music campaign.
The boys announce a spring tour for 2000 and ask the online auction site eBay to remove over 700 ticket auctions. In one completed auction, four tickets to the Indianapolis Conseco Fieldhouse show were sold for $4,550 .
2000
The Boys and their producers are nominated for five Grammy Awards including Record, Album, Pop Album, Song and Pop Song of the year.
In April the Boys spend 10 days in the Bahamas writing songs for the next album.
Kevin marries in June of that year longtime girlfriend Kristin Willis. The next one to get married is Brian in september of the same year, he marries Leighanne in a candlelit ceremony in midtown Atlanta.

The Boys announce that the name of the new album will be "Black & Blue". Pre-orders for the new album top 5 million units leading to speculation about first week's sales records.
In november the Boys release " Black & Blue " . To promote it, they travel around the world visiting all of the continents except for Antartica in 100 hours. It sells over 1.6 million copies in the USA in it's first week and debuts at the top of the Billboards charts. Around the world, the album sells over 5 million copies in its first week.
2001
In January the Boys announce a world tour that could break the record held by the Rolling Stones as the world's #1 live band. The boys pick up a grammy nomination for Show me the meaning of Being Lonely. And in February they continue their tour of America and Canada.
In July the tour is postponed until september because AJ enters rehab to battle his drinking and depression but in september something different happend that makes the boys cancel there plans again.
The terrorist attacks on the USA caused the Boys to cancel their plans to tour overseas in Europe and Astralia due to security concerns. Daniel Lee, a carpenter on the tour, had been using time off in the tour schedule to travel from Boston to Los Angeles to be with his pregnant wife. He was a passenger on one of the doomed airlines that chrashed into the World Trade Center in New York.
In october the boys release Chapter 1, a compilation CD of their greatest hits. Many see it as a sign that the Boys will soon break up and go their separate ways. The album debts atop the Billboards charts. The boys also perform at the UNITED WE STAND concert in Washington DC as well as the CONCERT FOR NEW YORK CITY, two benefit concerts for the victims of September 11.
2002
In Janary the Boys receive a Grammy nomination for their performance of Shape of My heart from the Black & Blue album. The award was in the Best Pop performance By a Do or Group with vocal category. Nick makes headlines after being arrested and charged with resisting a law enforcement officer early January 2 after he refsed to leave a Tampa nightclub when police instructed him to do so.
In February the Boys plan for studio work for the next, as yet untitled album. Nick agrees to enter a pretrial intervention program that allows him to avoid jail and any criminal record for getting into a spat with a Tampa police officer at a nightclub in January.
Rumours about a breakup are rampant.
In March the Boys part ways with their managment firm but Nick strikes up a solo management deal with the Firm. Meanwhile BSB settle on Irving Azoff and Howard Kaufman as their new managers. for soe strange reason, MTV covers news of AJ's engagement close to 3 months after he first announced it. Ex-keyboardist Tom Smith sues the Boys and Zomba for writing credit on two tracks for Black & Blue. Nick, while in Sweden working on his solo album with the likes of Max Martin narrowly avoids another run-in with the law after he gets into fisticuffs with one of his bodyguards at a nightclub.
2004
The boys get back into the studio to record there new album
2005
2005 is the year of there Comeback! They started a promo tour in the spring of 2005 where they did a lot of american country's but the rest of the world had to do it with one concert in Germany (Europe) where ofcourse where people from all over the world to see them for the first time in 5 years.
In june the new Album finally came out and in the summer they started there big world tour, they began in the USA (didn't do south-america unfortionatly for all there fans there), then Europe, Asia and at the end Australia, they saw the boys for the first time!

2006
June 24 2006 is the day the backstreet boys announced the departure of oldest member Kevin Richardson. That same weekend the boys go back to the studio with the 4 of them to record the new album.
2007
August 6, backstreet boys introduce their new single for the first time on radio "Z100" , the first single of the new Album is called "Inconsolable". Album "Unbreakable" comming out on October 30.
In October and November Backstreet Boys started their promoting tour in Europe and the USA.
